Be Aware- Older model being sent:
I placed an order for this item based on the good reviews and the new permanent HEPA filter. When I received it, it was indeed the 50150, but obviously an older model, as the product did not match the photo, and the HEPA filter required replacement (the specifications on this page list a permanent HEPA). Customer service immediately sent me a new one, and once again, I received the same older model. While the product seems to work fairly well, buyers should be cautious that Amazon may not be sending you... more info

Great value if you need to clean your air:
First off, I don't believe everyone needs an air purifier. If you are in a suburban area and can open your windows from time to time, and if you vacuum your home regularly there is only a need unless you have special contaminants (like pet hair) and specific allergies (like dust -- mold should probably be removed from home, not "filtered" as that's like masking an odor instead of cleaning what's causing it). Personally I live in NYC which means: - I have a small apartment with horrible... more info

Works okay, but why no dust filter?:
I've had this air purifier for just over two months now. Before my purchase I researched many types of purifiers and this seemed like the best choice due to the price and the fact that it is at the very least a HEPA purifier. Even if the plasmacluster technology doesn't work at least you have a HEPA purifier with a filter that has a 5 year life span. My wife has severe allergies, and I was hoping that this purifier would make a difference. It has done that but not to the extent that I had... more info

Honeywell 17000 HEPA QuietCare Air Cleaner
Editorial Review:
Recent reports from the EPA estimate that the indoor environment may be two to five times as polluted as outdoor air--and since most Americans spend 90% of their time indoors, that poor air quality can produce harmful immune-system reactions. An essential for anyone with allergies or asthma, this Honeywell air cleaner uses patented technology to rid the home or office of dust, dander, pollen, mold spores, dust mites, and smoke. Specially designed air intake and exhaust grills and a specially designed blade produce maximum airflow and minimum noise, while a high-efficiency HEPA filter traps more than 99% of even the tiniest particles. Sound-reducing insulation further dampens operational noise, and the Intelli-Check electronic indicator lets you know when it’s time to change filters. Three power levels let you customize air cleaning to your own needs. The Honeywell 17000 changes all the air in an average 12- by 14-foot room six complete times an hour. It has a robust Clear Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 130 for tobacco smoke, pollen, and dust, indicating the volume of filtered air delivered and thus the speed of filtering. --Mary Park

Great value - works well:
Originally I purchased an IFD air purifier. They simply don't work. To replace the IFD air purifier I purchase the Honeywell 17000. The unit works really well at removing dust and other airborn particles. The unit is not as "whisper quiet" as the model name would suggest - but I do not have trouble sleeping while it is on. It sounds like a small box fan on a low setting - which is not too bad at all really. For the price - I would highly recommend this unit over others.
Mine Lasted 6 Years!!!!!:
I just bought my second Honeywell air cleaner. Actually I bought 2 more. I bought one 6 years ago and ran it constantly. The motor is finally wearing out. This air cleaner worked great in my daughter's bedroom... she is severely allergic to dust and she has related asthma. It works so well that every week when I go to dust her room, there wasn't much dust to remove. I am buying one for my bedroom as well. I'd like to have one in every room of the house! Awesome product for a great price!
Great quality, great product!:
Although this is a louder unit than I had hoped, it does an excellent job, and has improved our air quality substantially. We've noticed vast improvements in our allergies. For the price, it's really a great buy. I am going to buy one for each room.

Blueair 402 Air Purification System
Editorial Review:
For rooms up to 365 square feet, this air purification system features two-stage HEPASilent technology that captures 99.97-percent of 0.1 micron particles, including allergy-provoking pollen grains, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander particles. Particles that a HEPA filter alone might miss are captured with an electrostatic charge. HEPASilent technology moves particles through an enclosed ion chamber, which attaches a charge to the particle itself. Charged particles cling more easily to the filter media, resulting in higher filter efficiency overall. Because most electrostatic air cleaners charge the filter media itself, the charge dissipates over time and renders the filter less efficient. By constantly charging incoming particles, instead of the filter, HEPASilent technology keeps on working effectively.
The air purifier's HEPASilent filter technology is geared towards a more environmentally friendly design as well. Its nontoxic polypropylene filter contains millions of ultra-thin fibers that trap tiny particles as they pass through the pleats. One of the least harmful plastics for human health and the environment, polypropylene works without outgassing or shedding irritating microscopic fibers into the air. Because polypropylene is waterproof, the filter resists contamination from bacteria, viruses, and mold naturally, without chemical additives. And as used filters are discarded and decompose, the filter media converts into harmless carbon dioxide and water.
Not only does the unit clean air with environmentally friendly filters, it’s HEPASilent filter technology also allows for extremely quiet operation. On the lowest setting, the unit emits no more sound than a desktop computer. With its HEPASilent filter technology, particles are trapped with both mechanical and electrostatic filters so that in combination, the two filters create a filter system through which air flows freely and the fan doesn't have to work so hard. The unit's design is also geared towards quiet operation with its noise-muffling steel housing. Not only quiet, but the air purifier is energy efficient as well, using less power than a 20-watt light bulb, or 80 watts on high.
The air purification system operates efficiently, quietly, as well as inoffensively. Instead of discharging a windy stream of filtered air, the unit diffuses air gently through an area six times greater than the average air cleaner. Its SurroundAir system achieves peak performance without annoying drafts by drawing in dirty air from the sides and bottom, moving it through a less dense filter media, and releasing clean, filtered air from the sides and top. Operating on its lowest setting, the system produces virtually no noticeable draft, while still providing an exceptional air exchange rate.
The air purifier features a sleek, contemporary, Swedish design and is easy to use and maintain. Simply plug it in, select the speed setting, and it is ready to go, with a bright blue power "on" light to show that it's working. The grilles and powder-coated steel exterior are easy to wipe clean, and when the filter needs to be replaced (twice yearly), just open the side, slide out the old filters, and drop the new ones in. This quiet, efficient, easy-to-use air purifier measures 23 by 20 by 11 inches and carries a 10-year warranty. --Catie Unger

One word - Quiet!:
After having had a typical inexpensive air cleaner you can buy at most department stores for years, I was concerned about having a filter that was noisy. Our old filter was too loud to leave on even on the lowest fan setting. In fact we would sometimes turn it on for the sole purpose of providing background noise when our kids were sleeping. I picked the Blueair 402 because of the great reviews that it got for being quiet and for the great ratings on how well it cleans the air. It arrived... more info
Works well and quietly:
After reading reviews a number of places online, I decided to buy the Blueair products. In ended up sampling the 402, 501 and 601, and ultimately returned the 501 and 601 and replaced them with 402s. The 402 is truly quiet. This was an important consideration for me; the reason I returned the 501 and 601 was because they were noisy. The 402 has four fan speed settings. The fastest is unpleasantly noisy; I would not want to be in the room while the unit is in this mode. The next fastest, though,... more info

Fantastic product & value at an affordable price:
After slaving for MONTHS of researching the best air cleaner at an afforable price. I had purchased the Honeywell 50250. It is an excellent machine and at such an afforable price. It is comparable to the $400-500 models. At first I was a little taken back by the size but was amazed at how well it cleaned the air. It is really easy to install and change filters - I can do it with one hand. Also filters are very inexpensive and only need to be changed every 3 months or so depending on your environment.
